CURRENT STATUS OF MALNUTRITION AND SOME RELATED FACTORS IN ADOLESCENTS AT THE VIETNAM NATIONAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: Survey the rate of malnutrition and some related factors among adolescents visiting the nutrition clinic, National Children's Hospital in 2023 - 2024. Methods: Cross-sectional description. Results: 169 adolescents aged 10 – 17 years (mean 11.63 ± 1.38 years) were included in the study. Rate of stunting malnutrition was 13%, the rate of wasting was 21.9% and 10.6% of adolescents were overweight - obese. The study also found that the rate of stunting and malnutrition in children is related to the height of the parents and that the rate of stunting among children living in rural areas and children without exercise habits is higher. Group of children living in urban areas and group of children with daily exercise habits (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The rate of malnutrition and stunting among school-going adolescents between the ages of 10 and 17 at the time of the survey was 13%, wasting was 21.9%, overweight and obese were 10.6%. Malnutrition is significantly higher among children who live in rural areas, do not have physical exercise habits, and have parents with limited height. Therefore, to improve the health and stature of adolescents in addition to maintaining good nutrition, there is a need for strategies to encourage children to regularly exercise, especially those living in rural areas.
