Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics, identify related factors, and assess the quality of life in shingles patients at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital in 2023. Determine the degree of impact on the quality of life in these patients. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study design, involving 105 patients diagnosed with shingles at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital in 2023. Results: Pain was the most prevalent symptom, occurring in 95.5% of cases, with an average disease duration of 4 days. Only 15.2% of patients received specialized dermatological treatment, and blistering and vesicular eruptions were the most common manifestations, accounting for 97.1% and 99%, respectively. The left side of the face and neck was the most frequently affected area, representing 40% and 61.9%, respectively. The average Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score was 4, and the predominant severity of the disease was moderate (40%). The average quality of life score in shingles patients was 12 points, categorized as a significant impact. Symptom and sensation-related aspects had the highest Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) scores, with 1.89±0.83, while professional and personal relationship aspects had the lowest scores, with 0.74±0.84. Conclusion: Blistering and vesicular eruptions were common in most patients, and the impact on the quality of life, as assessed by the DLQI, was significant.
