Abstract

Objectives: Study of clinical and paraclinical characteristics in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma at the Military Institute of Radiation Medicine and Oncology. Methods: Prospective, cross-sectional and longitudinal study on 119 patients with papillary thyroid cancer at the Military Institute of Radiation Medicine and Oncology from June 2023 to May 2024. Results: Average age 47.0 ± 9.3 years, female/male ratio: 6.9/1. The majority of patients accidentally discovered the disease during examination, accounting for 90.8%, palpation detected lymph nodes in the neck area 7.6%. Unifocal 72.3%. Invasion of the cortex accounted for 49.6% and invasion of adjacent organs 8.4%, lymph node metastasis 31.9%. Stage T1a accounted for 50.4%, T3b 41.2%. N1a 22.7%, N1b 9.2%. No distant metastasis was recorded. Stage I 69.7%, followed by stage II and III 18.5% and 10.1%, respectively. Patients had an average risk of recurrence of 45.4%, low risk of 34.5%. Female sex was a factor that reduced the risk of lymph node metastasis with OR = 0.26; 95% CI = 0.08-0.79, p < 0.05. Tumor > 5 mm increased the risk of lymph node metastasis with OR = 4.43, 95% CI = 1.06-20.37, p < 0.05.
