Abstract

Objectives: Investigating the factors influencing preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing spinal surgery at Viet Duc Hospital in 2024. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 234 patients using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety (HADS-A) to assess anxiety levels. Results: The average anxiety score on the HADS-A scale was 7.41±3.55 points; 50.9% of patients exhibited anxiety symptoms. Patients who underwent internal medicine treatment for more than 1 year before surgery were more likely to experience anxiety compared to those with less than 1 year, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.93 (95%CI: 1.10-3.38). Patients without comorbidities were less likely to experience anxiety compared to those with comorbidities, with an OR of 0.55 (95%CI: 0.32-0.93). No correlations were found between age, gender, marital status, number of previous surgeries, waiting time before surgery, and patients' anxiety status. Conclusion: Modifying the approach and providing psychosocial support to patients at risk of anxiety could help them feel more comfortable during surgery, thereby improving the effectiveness of the surgical process and disease treatment.
