Abstract

Objective: To  describe  clinical, subclinical  characteristics and treatment results of cerebral venous thrombosis at the Neurology Center, Bach Mai hospital. Subjects and methods: A prospective, descriptive study of 47 patients with cerebral venous thrombosis treated at the Neurology Center, Bach Mai Hospital from January 2023 to June 2024. Results: Mean age  was  44,7 ± 16,8, male/female ratio was 0,8:1. Onset was acute in 31.9% of patients and subacute in 81.6%. The most common symptom was headache (85.1%), followed by seizures (38.3%) and hemiparesis (27.7%). On MRI, the most common findings were cerebral infarct (17.0%), hemorrhage (14.9%), and hemorrhagic infarct (12.8%). The most frequent locations of thrombosis were the transverse sinus (89.4%), superior sagittal sinus (63.8%), and sigma sinus (61.7%). Preliminary evaluation of treatment outcomes for cerebral venous thrombosis after 12 weeks was quite promising. The rate of complete recanalization in the NOAC and warfarin groups was 80.5% and 66.7%, respectively. The percentage of patients with good recovery, as indicated by an mRS score of 0-1, was 80.5% in the NOAC group and 83.3% in the warfarin group. The recurrence rate of venous thromboembolic events was 2.4%.
