Abstract

Objective: Review some factors related to the results of treatment of severe pneumonia in newborns at Saint Paul General Hospital. Research subjects: 97 newborns with pneumonia and respiratory failure treated at the Neonatal Department of Saint Paul Hospital in 2023. Research methods: Description of a series of cases. Results: The male/female ratio was 2.7/1, full-term babies accounted for 73.2% and premature babies accounted for 26.8%. The rate of children cured (discharged from hospital) is 94.8%, ineffective is 5.2% (1.1% transferred to hospital, 4.1% died). Severe respiratory failure was 17.5%, the rate of anemia in the recovered (discharged) and ineffective groups was 13% and 60%, respectively. Consciousness disorders in the recovered group (discharged from hospital) were 4.3% and 40% in the ineffective group. The average time of oxygen use in the ineffective treatment group is 19.2 days, the cured group is 5.3 days Conclusion: There is a difference between the cured (discharged from hospital) and ineffective treatment groups in terms of rate. incidence of anemia, mental status and duration of oxygen support. However, there was no difference in manifestations of respiratory failure and hospital stay.
