EVALUATION OF OCCLUSION IN PATIENTS WITH OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA USING THE DISCREPANCY INDEX
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the severity of malocclusions in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study included 27 children and adults with OI, aged 12 years or older, and with permanent dentition. Clinical examinations were conducted to identify malocclusions, and dental casts were taken to measure the discrepancy index. Results: The average discrepancy index in the OI group was 28.6 ± 29.1, compared with 6,6 ± 3,9 in the control group. The greatest difference between the two groups was observed in anterior crossbite (OI group: 8.9; control group: 0.49). Conclusion: Malocclusions in OI patients are more severe than in the control group.
