Abstract

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized which is associated with estrogen deficiency, advanced age, genetic predisposition, and inadequate vitamin D. Objective: To assess the association between serum Vitamin D levels, bone density, and risk factors for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 156 postmenopausal women who visited Hai Phong International General Hospital for examination and treatment between December 2023 and September 2024. Results: Vitamin D deficiency was significantly associated with factors such as menopause duration >10 years (OR=3.8), advanced age (OR=3.1), high BMI (OR=2.1), and having given birth ≥3 times (OR=2.6) (p<0.05). Osteoporosis was associated with menopause duration >10 years (OR=3.1) and advanced age (OR=2.4) (p<0.05). Conclusion: The study revealed a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (85.3%) and a significant rate of osteoporosis (44.2%) among postmenopausal women. Risk factors such as menopause duration over 10 years, age ≥ 60, high BMI, and giving birth three or more times were significantly associated with the risk of both vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis.
