SEXUAL FUNCTION CHARACTERISTICS IN MALE PARKINSON’S DISEASE PATIENTS AT THE NATIONAL GERIATRIC HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Sexual dysfunction is a common but often overlooked issue in Parkinson's disease. Sexual dysfunction has a significant impact on quality of life, affecting relationships with partners, reducing self-care ability, and increasing the need for support from family members during Parkinson's treatment. Objective: To describe the characteristics of sexual function in male patients with Parkinson's disease at the National Geriatric Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive case series study was conducted involving 75 male Parkinson's disease patients who were either hospitalized or treated on an outpatient basis at the National Geriatric Hospital from August 2023 to July 2024. Results: The study population had an average age of 67.85±7.86 years; the average duration of Parkinson's disease was 6.43±3.88 years; the primary stages of Parkinson's disease in the study group were Stage 3 (36%) and Stage 2 (32%); 80% of patients had erectile dysfunction; the average duration of erectile dysfunction was 5.92±4.32 years; 34.7% of patients had severe sexual dysfunction. Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction is a common condition in male Parkinson's disease patients, and all aspects of sexual function are affected
