Abstract

Objective: We describe the activities of daily function and quality of life in patients with myasthenia gravis. Subjects and Methods: This is a descriptive case series study involving patients aged 18 and older, diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, and treated at the Neurology. Results: The study included 81 patients. The average age was 46.67 ± 14.54 years, with a female-to-male ratio of approximately 2:1. The average age of disease onset was 44.67 ± 14.71 years. The percentage of patients with thymic hyperplasia or thymoma was 42%. At the time of hospital admission, 8.7% of patients were classified as MGFA grade IV or V (severe muscle weakness or requiring intubation). Daily function, as assessed by the MG-ADL score at hospital admission, had an average of 11.23 ± 4.60, which improved to 5.79 ± 3.13 at discharge, showing statistically significant improvement (p=0.000). Quality of life, assessed using the MG-QOL15 score, averaged 27.19 ± 10.52 at admission and improved to 18.02 ± 7.46 at discharge, with a significant improvement (p=0.000). Conclusion: Myasthenia gravis reduces daily functional activities and quality of life, particularly in patients with severe muscle weakness.
