COMPARISON OF OUTCOMES BETWEEN SINGLE-LEVEL ANTERIOR CERVICAL DISCECTOMY AND FUSION (ACDF) AND TOTAL DISC REPLACEMENT (TDR) IN PATIENTS WITH CERVICAL DISC HERNIATION AT VIET DUC HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To compare the outcomes of single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and total disc replacement (TDR) in patients with cervical disc herniation at Viet Duc Hospital. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study involving 79 patients divided into two groups: Group I included 41 patients with cervical disc herniation who underwent single-level ACDF, and Group II included 38 patients with cervical disc herniation who underwent single-level TDR at Viet Duc Hospital from January 2022 to January 2023, with a follow-up period of 2 years. Results: The TDR group showed better improvement in NDI and VAS scores compared to the ACDF group (p<0.01). The rate of adjacent segment disease was higher in the ACDF group compared to the TDR group (14.6% versus 5.2%). Conclusion: Total disc replacement surgery (TDR) shows better improvement compared to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in terms of NDI and VAS scores. TDR can be considered the primary approach for patients with single-level cervical disc herniation.
