Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to describe the clinical and laboratory features, as well as evaluate the treatment outcomes of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in children at Xanh Pon General Hospital. Methods: A prospective and retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 197 children aged 2 months to 16 years who were diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia from March 2023 to March 2024. Clinical features, laboratory findings, and treatment outcomes were analyzed based on medical records. Results: The mean age of patients was 6.45 ± 3.3 years, with the majority being under 5 years old. The most common clinical symptoms were cough (93.9%) and fever (76.6%). On X-ray, diffuse lung lesions accounted for 79.1%. Elevated CRP levels were observed in 65% of patients, while normal white blood cell counts were seen in 58.3%. The average treatment duration was 7.7 ± 7 days, with a macrolide resistance rate of 29.4% and no fatalities. Conclusion: Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia predominantly affects children under 5 years old, with common symptoms of cough and fever. The high rate of macrolide resistance poses a significant challenge in treatment, necessitating appropriate management strategies.
