Abstract

Objectives: Evaluate the improvement of treatment results of Spontaneous Acute Spinal Epidural Hematoma.  Results: average age 57 y.o; sudden onset of severe spinal pain 80,4%; interval time to neurodeficit: 34 hours; ttime interval to MRI 54 hours. ASIA at admission: A (15,4%), B (28,8%), C (19,2%), D (28,8%), E (7,7%); Hematomal width: 5 levels (1-13 levels); most affected level: C4 (67,3%); surgical treatment: 86%; last follow up ASIA: death (1,9%), A (1,9%), B (3,8%), C (7,7%), D (30,8%), E (53,8%); recovery rate was highest in patient who had pre-op ASIA – C score. Conclusion: MRI may help getting early accuracy diagnosis of SASEH and surgical treatment is necessarily indicated when the patients had neurodeficits at ASIA  A, B or C.
