EFFICACY OF I-GEL LARYNGEAL MASK AIRWAY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF AIRWAY IN CHILDREN UNDERGOING STRABISMUS SURGERY
Main Article Content
Abstract
STRABISMUS SURGERY
Objects: To compare the effect of the management of airway by the laryngeal mask airway Classic with I-gel laryngeal mask airway. Methods: RCT, one hundered children were randomly allocated to either the i-gel or the LMA Classic. Results: In a comparative study between I-Gel and C-LMA groups, the I-Gel demonstrated a significantly faster mean insertion time of 12,68 ± 3,39 seconds as compared to 38,52 ± 7,38 seconds for the CLMA group. Success rate at first insertion attempt was 100% in the i-gel group compared with 84% in the LMA Classic group. There were no differences between the groups in airway leak pressures, airway pressures, SpO2 and EtCO2. Conclusion: I-gel™ can be an alternative to LMA-Classic™ for controlled ventilation during anesthesia.
