Abstract

Objective: Describe the clinical and dental X-ray characteristics of a group of patients with dental-induced localized maxillofacial cellulitis at 108 Central Military Hospital. Subjects and method: Description of a cluster of cases in patients with localized maxillofacial cellulitis at the Department of Dentistry, 108 Central Military Hospital from June 2021 to June 2024. Results: Out of 50 patients with localized maxillofacial cellulitis from odontogenic sources, there were 35 male patients and 15 female patients, with an average age of 45.10 ± 20.37. Most patients came to the hospital late, 62% of patients came to the hospital late after >7 days. The cause of periapical infection accounted for 76%. Among the patients with maxillofacial cellulitis due to periapical infection, 68.4% of patients had periapical radiolucent lesions over 1cm. Conclusion: The main cause of localized maxillofacial cellulitis from odontogenic sources in the group of 50 observed patients was periapical infection. The disease is common in the elderly (>60 years old) and has moderate functional symptoms but would be severe rapidly if the patients are not examined and treated promptly.
