EVALUATION OF EARLY RESULTS OF TOTALLY ENDOSCOPIC MINIMALLY INVASIVE MITRAL VALVE SURGERY

Abstract

Objective: evaluating early outcomes of totally endoscopic minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. Methods: Retrospective - case series deciptive study of 33 patients with mitral valve disease, who were indicated for mitral valve repair or replacement using the totally endoscopic minimally invasive approach, from July 2023 to July 2024 conducted at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City. Results: Among 33 patients in study, the male-female ratio was 1,75:1, and the mean age was 48,1 ± 11,1. There were 20 cases of mitral valve repair and 13 cases of valve replacement. The mean extracorporeal circulation (CPB) time was 159.2 ± 44.8 minutes, mean aortic clamping time was 103.4 ± 27.9 minutes. Accompanying surgeries include: 5 cases of tricuspid valve repair surgery, 4 cases of maze surgery. 4 cases experienced complications: 1 case was related to the endoscopic surgical technique (pneumothorax). There were no fatality. The surgery was technically successful in 94.9%. The treatment effect was good in all cases, in which the successful mitral valve replacement rate reached 100%. Conclusion: Totally endoscopic mitral valve surgery is safe, effective, and reduces both physical and mental trauma for patients. In addition, accompanying procedures such as tricuspid valve repair, maze surgery and closure of atrial septal defect are also performed through minimally invasive surgery.
