Abstract

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between changes in thyroid hormone levels and the severity of chronic liver disease. Patients and Methods: Recruiting all children from 0 - 6 years old at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital from August 2023 to August 2024 who meet the diagnostic criteria for CLD and are eligible to participate in the study. Descriptive study. Results: There were 136 CLD patients eligible to participate in the study, the highest proportion being the Biliary Atresia group (55,9%), of which up to 37,5% had thyroid dysfunction. There is a relationship between hormone abnormalities T3, FT4, TSH, and the severity of CLD, assessed through the PELD Score (Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease). Using the ROC curve shows that the PELD score (AUC= 0,878, p=0,000, 95%CI= 0,813-0,942) can predict T3 abnormality, and the PELD cut-off point predicting T3 abnormality is 8,75. with a sensitivity of 93,3% and specificity of 68,9%. Conclusion: Children with CLD have thyroid dysfunction and these thyroid dysfunctions are associated with the severity of CLD assessed through the PELD Score. The PELD cut-off score has a predictive value of 8,75 for thyroid hormone abnormalities
