Abstract

Local collagen injection therapy has been widely used in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, including partial supraspinatus tear. Aims: To assess the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided injection of low molecular weight collagen in the treatment of supraspinatus tendonitis and evaluate adverse effects of this therapy after 12 weeks of follow-up. Methods: Controlled clinical trial were followed up to 12 weeks in 52 patients (54 tendons) partial supraspinatus tear received ultrasound- guided injections of low mocecular weight collagen (Arthrys 5mg/ml) into the divided into supraspinatus tendon. Results: After 12 weeks of treatment, there was an improvement in VAS, abduction angle of shoulder joint and SPADI scores in the research group: The average VAS and SPADI scores were decreased from 7,1 ± 0,9 to 2,9 ± 0,8 and 64,6 ± 8,3 to 29 ± 4,15, the average abduction angle of shoulder joint was increased from 71,6 ± 3.6 to 97,5 ± 5,2 degrees (p<0,05). Side effects of the research group was 23,1% of the patients increased pain at the injection site over 24 hours and there was no serious complication in the group. Conclusion: ultrasound-guided injection of low molecular weight collagen is good at the treatment of partial supraspinatus tear and the therapy is safe.
