Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: 1. Describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of fungal laryngitis 2. Evaluate the results of treatment for fungal laryngitis. Methods: the patients who have diagnosis and treatment at the Endoscopy Department of National Otolaryngology Hospital from February to July 2023. Non-controlled intervention study. Results: Common age is 30-60 years old (73,0%). Males have a higher ratio than females (75,7%/24,3%). Patients who are farmers have the highest prevalence 32,4%. Most patients had been treated with antibiotics and corticosteroids, and none of the patients had immunodeficiency. 100% of patients go to hospital due to hoarseness. Pseudomembrane at the middle one-third of the vocal cord is the most common (45,9%). Fungal wet mount finding hyphae in all patients. Histopathology: 4 patients are squamous cell carcinoma, and 1 patient is Arspegillus. 96,9% of patients have surgical treatment once. The average treatment duration is 7,15 weeks. 69,7% of patients have good results, and 27,3% have moderate results. Conclusions: In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in laryngitis rates even among individuals with no medical history. A histopathology of the vocal cord under the pseudomembrane is necessary, particularly in cases of unilateral lesions, to exclude fungal surinfection of laryngeal cancer. Surgical treatment combined with anti-fungal medication is effective.
