NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD AT MEDICAL CENTER OF QUYNH LUU DISTRICT IN 2023-2024

Abstract

Objective: Describe the nutritional status of children under 5 years old at Quynh Luu District General Hospital, Nghe An in 2024. Research method: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 321 children treated at the Pediatrics Department of Quynh Luu District General Hospital, Nghe An Province in 2024. Research results: The majority of the study subjects were children under 12 months old using 43.6%, the group of children from 12-24 months used 29.9%, the rest were children over 24 months old. The overall respiratory infection rate was 69.5%, acute digestive infection was 16.8%, 2.5% had both diseases. Balanced malnutrition used the highest balanced rate in the group of children 36 to 47 months old, the group of children 12-23 months old had the lowest SDD rate and the highest 38.5%. The rate of malnutrition in all types of children in the group of children with acute respiratory infections was higher than in the group of children with acute digestive infections. The rate of underweight children in the group with acute respiratory infections was 50%, in the group with acute digestive infections  was 27.5%, the rest was the rate of other diseases, which was statistically significant (p = 0.025). The rate of slow malnutrition in the group of children with URIs and URIs was 66.7% and 15.3%, respectively, but the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). The rate of wasting children in the group with URIs was highest at 57.1%, in the group with acute digestive infections was 32.1%, the rest was the rate of other diseases, which was statistically significant (p = 0.024). Conclusion: The rate of malnutrition in 321 children in this study is still high, and nutritional and medical interventions are needed to improve the current and long-term health status of children.
