Abstract

Background: The rate of uterine preservation in the treatment of cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is quite high, so the future obstetric prospects after CSP treatment have been increasingly focused on. Objective: An investigation into pregnancy outcomes and characteristics following uterine-preserving treatment for cesarean scar pregnancy. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of women who underwent uterine-preserving treatment for post-cesarean scar pregnancy at Hung Vuong Hospital and Tu Du Hospital from 2015 to 2017. Patients meeting the inclusion criteria were contacted by phone to record their pregnancy status and related information. Results: Of the 204 cases studied, 40 pregnancies occurred. In 22 cases (55%), a live birth was achieved, and all newborns were healthy with no reported complications during pregnancy. There were 12 cases of recurrent post-cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) (30%), none of which resulted in complications. All cases were successfully managed with uterine preservation. Two cases resulted in medical abortions (5%), two in ectopic pregnancies (5%), and two in early miscarriages (5%). Conclusions: The potential for future pregnancies and pregnancy outcomes after treatment for post-cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is promising. However, the risk of CSP recurrence remains high and is a cause for concern.
