THE IMPACT OF REPEATING THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE QUALITY OF BOWEL PREPARATION FOR COLONSCOPY

Abstract

This study is aimed to evaluate the impact of repeating the instructions on the quality of bowel preparation compared to conventional protocol. Study design: Clinical intervention, endoscopist – blind, with a control group. Results of total 200 patients (87 in control group and 113 in intervention group) showed that the proportion of compliance with instructions for bowel preparation was high, there was no statistically significant difference in both groups: taking prescribed laxatives (94,5%) and water (94,5%). The proportion of patient who compliance with walking and massing abdomen always in intervention group is 60,2% and control group is 44,8%, p=0,031. 50,5% of patient spent 2-3 hours on taking laxatives and water, in which, the percentage of the intervention group is 56,6% was the higher than the control group (42,5%), p=0,001. The proportion of eligible patients undergoing colonoscopy is 91,5%. The level of colonic cleanliness at the last defecation that the reach the standard in intervention group (85,9%) was more than the control group (80,4%). The total of BBPS ≥ 6 in intervention group (93,8%) was higher than the control group (88,5%), p=0,042. The repeating instructions is a novel educational tool that shows high applicability and efficiency improvement for bowel preparation.
