Abstract

Objectives: The study aims to describe the characteristics of some hematological indices in patients with cirrhosis at Tra Vinh General Hospital. Subjects and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study using retrospective data on 267 records of patients with cirrhosis who came to Tra Vinh General Hospital for examination and treatment from January 2023 to July 2024. Results: The average values of RBC, HGB, HCT, PLT indices were lower than the normal limits compared to the biological reference range. The instrument for measuring red blood cell count reduced below 4 x106/µL uses 79.4%, hemoglobin concentration ≤ 109 g/L uses 67.0%, hematocrit drops below 34% uses 75.7%. In particular, up to 73.8% of patients had reduced platelet count. Conclusion: Anemia in patients with cirrhosis is still an urgent problem causing many serious consequences. Thrombocytopenia in patients with cirrhosis can lead to disorders in the coagulation process, dangerous bleeding and difficulty in surgery.
