Abstract

Objective: Describer the epidemiological, clinical, and computed tomography (CT) imaging characteristics of bilateral chronic subdural hematoma. Subjects and Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study with 31 cases who were diagnosed and surgically treated of bilateral chronic subdural hematoma at Military Hospital 103 from April 2022 to April 2024. Results: Mean age was 69.26 ± 10.99; male-to-female ratio was 9.33:1, traumatic brain injury (64.52%), onset from the cause to diagnosis (3–8 weeks, 75%). 93.55% of patients had GCS ≥13. Headache was the most common symptom (93.54%). There was no significant difference in hematoma thickness between the two sides, with mixed-density hematomas being the most common type (51.62%) and minimal midline shift observed. Conclusion: Chronic subdural hematoma predominantly affects the elderly (over 60 years), with a higher prevalence in males, the most common cause was brain trauma, headache as the most frequent symptom. Imaging typically shows mixed-density hematomas with minimal midline shift.
