Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the cesarean section (C-section) indications for primiparous mothers at Tan Son district medical center, Phu Tho province. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 207 primiparous mothers with C-section indications at Tan Son district medical center, Phu Tho province. Results: The proportion of C-section indications due to the fetal accounted for 44.9%; due to the fetus 38.6%; due to maternal disease 29.0% and other causes 36.2%. In the group of C-section due to the genital tract: the proportion of C-section indication due to abnormal pelvis was 26.2%; the rate of undeveloped cervix was 46.2%. In the group of C-section due to the fetus: the proportion of C-section due to big fetus was 57.1%, due to fetal distress was 20.9% and due to abnormal presentation was 15.1%. In the group of C-section due to the fetus: the proportion of C-section indication due to premature rupture of membranes was 51.2%; due to oligohydramnios was 43.8% and due to placenta previa was 2.5%. In the group of C-section due to maternal disease: the proportion of C-section indication due to preeclampsia was 83.8% and due to other diseases was 18.3%. In the group of C-section due to social reasons: the proportion of C-section indication due to family request was 92.0% and due to prolonged labor was 8.0%. Conclusion: C-section indication for primiparous mothers at Tan Son district medical Center is appropriate.
