Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the complications associasted with the use of silicone oil 1000 centistokes in the retinal detachment repair. Methods: A prospective observatinal study was conducted in 48 eyes with retinal detachment were monitored over six months after pars plana vitrectomy and intraocular silicone oil 1000 centistokes tamponade. Results: Complications after surgery included ocular hypertesion with 27 cases (56,25%) of early postoperative (≤1 month), 5 cases (10,42%) of late postoperative (>1 month); silicone oil emulsification rate was 62,5%, with a mean emulsification time of 4,7± 1,13 months; the rate of cataract formation after surgery was 90,6% (29/32). Conclusion: Silicone oil complications following retinal detachment repair requires close monitoring to ensure prompt and effective treatment.
