ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE IN CHILDREN WITH ATOPIC DERMATITIS USING THE PedsQL 4.0 SCALE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To assess the quality of life in children with atopic dermatitis based on scores from the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL 4.0). Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 160 children aged 8 to 17 years with atopic dermatitis (AD) at Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital from March 2024 to August 2024. Results: The self-reported quality of life scores for children with AD in the physical, emotional, social, school, and overall quality of life domains had median (interquartile range) scores as follows: 87.5 (81.3 – 90.6), 80 (70 – 85), 90 (80 – 90), 85 (80 – 90), and 85.6 (78.7 – 89.4), respectively. The lowest quality of life score was observed in the emotional domain. Children with more severe AD experienced greater declines in quality of life. Conclusion: AD significantly affects multiple aspects of children's quality of life, especially in the emotional domain. The PedsQL 4.0 scale is a simple, time- and cost-effective tool, applicable for children aged 8 to 17 years, providing detailed and comprehensive assessments of children's quality of life, thereby supporting physicians in managing AD in children more effectively.
