USING ABSORBENT PAPER STRIPS TO COLLECT GINGIVAL CREVICULAR FLUID IN PERIODONTAL DISEASE RESEARCH
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To use absorbent paper strips to collect gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in periodontal disease diagnostic research. Materials and Methods: Absorbent paper strips were used to collect gingival crevicular fluid from 20 dental crowns (10 all-ceramic crowns and 10 metal-ceramic crowns) at three time points: immediately after crown placement (T0), on day 45 (T1), and on day 90 (T2) after crown placement. The concentration of IL-1β in all absorbent paper strips was measured and analyzed. Results:The IL-1β concentration in the all-ceramic crown group was recorded as follows: T0: 79.45 ± 16.43 pg/ml; T1: 80.02 ± 15.65 pg/ml; and T2: 82.61 ± 15.75 pg/ml. Meanwhile, the IL-1β concentration in the metal-ceramic crown group was: T0: 79.57 ± 16.33 pg/ml; T1: 81.38 ± 19.12 pg/ml; and T2: 83.21 ± 18.35 pg/ml. Conclusion: The use of absorbent paper strips is a valuable method for collecting GCF in periodontal disease research.
