Abstract

Objective: Descript the signs at patient of pre-diabetes or diabetes mellitus at Vietduc hospital. Patients: all patients aged 18 and above visiting Vietduc hospital for fasting glucose and HbA1c testing in the morning. Method: descriptive cross sectional study. Results: in 2023, there are 21,346 patients aged 18 and older underwent fasting plasma glucose tests. Among them, 31.4% had glucose levels between 5.6 and 6.9 mmol/L, indicating pre-diabetes, with a progressively increasing rate by age, from 12.8% in those aged 18-25 to 38.9% in those over 65. Additionally, 11.5% of patients had fasting plasma glucose levels ≥ 7.0 mmol/L, indicating diabetes, increasing from 2.7% in those aged 18-25 to 20.4% in those over 65. The prevalence of pre-diabetes or diabetes was higher in males than in females. Patients with diabetes had an average fasting plasma glucose level of 10.84 ± 4.0 (mmol/L) and an HbA1c of 8.43 ± 1.59%. 252 patients with pre-diabetes had an average fasting plasma glucose level of 6.16 ± 0.38 (mmol/L) and an HbA1c of 6.0 ± 0.21%. Conclusion: The percentage of patients with pre-diabetes or diabetes at Vietduc Hospital is high, with a higher prevalence in males and an increasing trend with age.
