Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical features and certain risk factors of cerebral venous thrombosis at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 51 patients diagnosed with cerebral venous thrombosis who were treated at the Department of Neurology, Can Tho Central General Hospital, from April 2023 to December 2024. Results: The mean age of the study group was 46.2 ± 15.8. The majority were female (68.6%). The onset time of acute, subacute, and chronic disease accounted for 39.2%, 58.8%, and 2%, respectively. The most common clinical manifestations were headache (94.1%), hemiparesis (51%), seizures (49%), vomiting (25.5%), and speech disturbances (25.5%). Secondary risk factors identified were oral contraceptive use (31.4%), infections (9.8%), and venous thrombosis (3.9%). In the female patient group, contraceptive use was the most common birth-related risk factor, accounting for 45.7%. Conclusion: Cerebral venous thrombosis has diverse clinical features. Recognizing secondary risk factors is essential for disease prevention, especially contraceptive use, which is an important risk factor for cerebral venous thrombosis in female patients.
