EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF CT-GUIDED KIDNEY BIOPSY FOR SOLID RENAL MASSES
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: CT-guided kidney biopsy is the gold standard for kidney tumor diagnosis. This study described the diagnostic yield and complications of CT-guided kidney biopsies in patients with solid renal masses. Materials and methods: Descriptive study, conducted at the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Hanoi Oncology Hospital from February 2023 to January 2025. Biopsy performance was compared with surgical pathology results. Complications were defined as hematoma, pneumothorax, ascites, nephrectomy. Results: 39 CT-guided native kidney biopsies were performed during the study period, there were 33 tumors whose histopathology was kidney cancer, of which clear cell carcinoma was the most common, accounting for 48.49%. The results of percutaneous needle biopsy under CT guidance for diagnosing malignant kidney tumors show a high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy upto 95%. The agreement of histopathological results between the biopsy and surgery is very good, with Kappa coefficient = 065. Complications have a rate of 48.71%, all cases are asymptomatic hematomas, with no other complications. Conclusions: CT-guided kidnney biopsy can be performed safely and effectively, with a low complication rate and a high diagnostic accuracy.
