Abstract

Hypertension (HTN) is a common disease and a leading cause of death worldwide. Hypertension is considered a silent killer because the disease does not have typical clinical symptoms; not everyone with Hypertension shows signs of the disease. Some people with HTN may have clinical symptoms such as: dizziness, headaches, and tinnitus. However, many people with hypertension do not exhibit this symptom. Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires regular monitoring, proper treatment, and long-term care. Hanoi General Hospital always strives to provide the most comprehensive healthcare services to its customers. Recognizing the prevalence and dangerous nature of cardiovascular diseases, the most common being hypertension, coronary artery disease, and stroke. To achieve treatment goals, patients must have a good understanding of the disease. However, to date, there has been no research conducted at Hanoi General Hospital to assess the current state of knowledge among outpatients receiving treatment at Hanoi General Hospital. There are 130 patients participating in the study. Patients (P) who correctly define hypertension (maximum blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or minimum blood pressure ≥90 mmHg) account for a rate of (75.4%). Regarding the common symptoms of hypertension, patients are often aware of symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and lightheadedness, which account for the highest rates of (70.0%), (65.4%), and (62.3%) respectively. It is known that hypertension requires continuous and lifelong treatment, accounting for 85.5%. Patients are aware that treating hypertension requires taking medication according to the doctor's prescription, with the highest percentage being 80.0%. As many as 20.0% of patients responded that they need to take medication according to the doctor's prescription but only take it when blood pressure increases or when there are symptoms.
