Abstract

Background: 24-hour Holter electrocardiogram monitoring is a diagnostic tool for investigating arrhythmias. This clinical test is commonly indicated in cardiology clinics but is increasingly utilized in general practice settings. Objective: This study aims to determine the characteristics of 24-hour Holter electrocardiogram monitoring in a general practice clinic. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 74 patients who underwent 24-hour Holter electrocardiogram monitoring at the General Practice Clinic, Military Hospital 7A. Results: The results showed that the most common indications for Holter monitoring were palpitations (45.9%) and abnormalities found on the 12-lead electrocardiogram (40.5%). Premature ventricular contractions ≥ 10,000 and/or ≥ 10% in 24 hours accounted for 9.5%. Significant bradyarrhythmias included second-degree (2.7%) and third-degree atrioventricular block (2.4%). Significant tachyarrhythmias included atrial fibrillation (14.9%) and non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (9.5%). Conclusion: The 24-hour Holter electrocardiogram is a valuable tool for detecting significant electrocardiographic abnormalities in patients with and without symptoms in general practice clinics.
