EVALUATION OF QUALITY OF LIFE USING THE SF-12 SCALE IN PATIENTS WITH ULCERATIVE COLITIS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disease that can significantly impact patients' quality of life (QoL). The objective of this study was to "Evaluate the quality of life in patients with ulcerative colitis using the SF-12 scale and identify related factors." Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 60 patients undergoing treatment at the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Center, Bach Mai Hospital, from January 2024 to April 2024. Results: According to the SF-12 scale, the average physical health score (PCS) was 35.5 ± 8.4, the average mental health score (MCS) was 43.6 ± 11.9, and the overall quality of life score was 48.9 ± 22.2. There were no significant differences in PCS and MCS scores based on age, gender, residence, occupation, BMI, disease duration, or the extent of lesions according to the Montreal classification. However, there is a statistically significant decrease in PCS scores with increasing disease activity severity (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Ulcerative colitis negatively affects patients' quality of life, including both physical and mental health.
