Abstract
Objectives: To determine the proportion of people knowledgeable about using the 115 emergency number for medical assistance and their satisfaction with pre-hospital emergency services in Di An City. Background: Evaluating the effectiveness of communication efforts and public attitudes and trust towards the emergency response system “115” is essential. Assessing public knowledge of using the emergency number "115" and satisfaction with the pre-hospital emergency services will provide a foundation for policy evaluation and appropriate adjustments to improve service quality. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was employed, involving interviews with 399 participants aged 15 and above, who visited the one-stop service center of the People's Committee of Di An City and agreed to participate. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire, which included demographics, knowledge of the emergency call number, and attitudes towards pre-hospital emergency services. Statistically significant correlations (p<0.05) were found between age group, residency, occupation, income, previous experience with emergencies, and knowledge of 115 as an emergency call number with its actual use for medical assistance. No significant relationship was found between gender, first aid training, and the use of 115 for medical assistance (p>0.05). Results: About two-thirds of participants were aware that 115 is the emergency call number for medical assistance. The primary sources of information included newspapers/radio/TV (61.4%), family members (54.9%), and ambulance vehicles (45.6%). The satisfaction rate with the 115 emergency service was only 41.8%. However, individuals who had previously used the 115 service reported a 2.02 times higher satisfaction rate (95%CI: 1.67–2.64) than those who had not. Conclusion: Many people remain unaware that 115 is the emergency number for medical assistance. Those who have used the 115 service tend to report relatively high satisfaction.
