Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to analyze factors associated with preoperative anxiety, and depression among patients undergoing urological surgery. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 250 patients in the Urology Department of Xanh Pon General Hospital. Results: The study revealed that 99.2% of patients received comprehensive preoperative health education and counseling, while 0.8% received incomplete counseling. The prevalence of preoperative stress was 0.4%, anxiety was 20.8%, and depression was 0.8%. Patients under 60 years old experienced significantly less anxiety compared to those over 60, with a statistically significant association at a 95% confidence level. However, no significant association was found between anxiety and factors such as gender, occupation, residential area, educational level, or income. Patients living with a spouse exhibited lower anxiety levels compared to single, divorced, or widowed patients (OR = 0.37; 95% CI = 0.15–0.88). Additionally, no significant association was observed between patient anxiety and hospital care, health education counseling, surgical organs, surgical methods, or surgical types (p > 0.05). The hospital environment was significantly associated with patient anxiety at a 95% confidence level. Furthermore, preoperative explanations and guidance provided by doctors and nurses were significantly associated with reduced patient anxiety (OR = 0.08; 95% CI = 0.01–0.85). Conclusion: Factors such as patient age, marital status, hospital environment, and preoperative counseling were significantly associated with preoperative stress, anxiety, and depression among patients in the Urology Department at Xanh Pon Hospital.
