THE LONG-TERM OUTCOMES AFTER SURGICAL TREATMENT OF RECTOCELE AT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER, HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the long-term outcomes after surgical treatment of rectocele at University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh city. Methods: We studied retrospectively case series of rectocele treated by surgery at University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh city in the period 2019-2023. Results: 107 people with rectocele were operated on, with 90.7% operated on the STARR method (81.3% with 2-machine STARR), 9.3% with the posterior vaginal wall repair using mesh implants. The results recorded a reduction rate of constipation due to obstructed defecation syndrom of 79.4%. The long-term complication rate accounted for 4.7% of all cases. The recurrence rate was 0.9%. Conclusion: The results of surgical treatment for rectocele at University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City in the period 2019-2023 are quite high with a disease reduction rate of nearly 80% and a low rate of long-term complications and recurrence.
