Abstract

Objectives: Assessing the knowledge of dengue fever among mothers whose children were treated at the National Children's Hospital in 2024. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study using a convenient sampling method and a self-administered questionnaire to assess mothers' knowledge of dengue fever. Results: 87.1% and 85.7% of mothers, respectively, knew who was at risk of dengue fever, a disease transmitted by Aedes mosquito bites. The percentage of mothers who knew the symptoms of the disease such as continuous high fever/congested skin/headache, loss of appetite/muscle and joint pain was 88.6%/57.1%/71.4%/55.7%. Over 50% of mothers were aware of the complications of the disease and 67.1% of them knew that there was no specific treatment for dengue fever. Over 70% of mothers had correct knowledge about how to prevent mosquito bites, but only 58.6% knew not to let children play in dark places to avoid dengue fever. Conclusion: Knowledge of dengue fever among mothers whose children were being treated was relatively good, with 68.6% having correct knowledge and 31.4% having incorrect knowledge.
