Abstract

Introduction: Quality of life (QOL) is a measure used to assess the health of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and the quality of care. Objectives: To assess the QOL of ESRD patients undergoing dialysis treatment at Thong Nhat Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as factors associated with their QOL. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 192 ESRD patients at Thong Nhat Hospital from September to November 2024. The Short Form-36 scale was used to assess QOL. Results: The overall QOL was at a medium-good level (physical health 48.36 ± 22.22; mental health 60.29 ± 18.13; general health 54.33 ± 17.93; EQ-5D-5L’ score 0.59 ± 0.25). There was a statistically significant difference in QOL between patients on hemodialysis and those on peritoneal dialysis (p < 0.01). Factors such as place of residence, personal economic status, health insurance, smoking habits, hypertension, duration of dialysis, and frequency of dialysis per week were associated with the QOL of hemodialysis patients (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The QOL of ESRD patients on dialysis was moderately good.
