PREMATURE RUPTURE OF MEMBRANES IN PREGNANCY AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is a condition in which the amniotic sac ruptures before the cervix is fully dilated during labor, significantly impacting pregnancy outcomes. Objectives: To determine PROM’s prevalence and associated factors in pregnant women admitted for delivery at the Obstetrics Department of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Materials and method: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 355 pregnant women with a gestational age of at least 28 weeks who delivered at the Obstetrics Department of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from 06/2023 to 01/2025. Results: The prevalence of PROM was 33.8%. Several factors were associated with PROM, including primiparity, which increased the risk 6.8 times (95% CI: 4.2 – 11.1); history of miscarriage, which increased the risk 2.1 times (95% CI: 1.2 – 3.9); history of PROM, which increased the risk 1.9 times (95% CI: 1.1 – 2.5); and previous cesarean section, which decreased the risk to 0.08 times (95% CI: 0.04 – 0.2). Conclusions: PROM has a high prevalence, and previous pregnancy history is associated with the occurrence of PROM in pregnant women.
