Abstract

Introduction: Basic Life Support (BLS) is of great importance in providing first aid and saving patients' lives. Studies show that, if treated immediately with BLS, the survival rate after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest can increase significantly, from 10% to 40-50%. Objective: Determine the practical knowledge of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation of Nursing students at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in 2024. Objects and methods: Cross-sectional study on 226 students of the Faculty of Nursing - Medical Technology in 2020, 2021, 2022 with the majors of General Nursing (DDDK), Bachelor of Rehabilitation (PHCN), Bachelor of Nursing Nursing specialized in Midwifery (HS) and Nursing specialized in Anesthesia and Resuscitation (GMHS) and Emergency Medicine outside the hospital (CCNBV) full-time system at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine. Result: Of the 226 Nursing students whose theory was surveyed, 62 students were not good (accounting for 27.4%); 164 good nurses, accounting for 72.6%. Regarding good practice, there are 149 students (accounting for 65.9%). Students with poor practice results are 77 students (accounting for 34.1%). Research results show that the percentage of 4th year students with cardiopulmonary resuscitation knowledge is higher than 3rd and 2nd year students, statistically significant with p < 0.05. Conclusion: The knowledge and practice of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation of Nursing students at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in 2024 is quite high, but the school also needs to promote the implementation of supplementary activities to improve Cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills for students.
