Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To describe the current knowledge and propose measures to improve the effectiveness of self-administered injectable medications among patients preparing for in vitro fertilization (IVF) at Vinh Phuc Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in 2024. Material and Method: Descriptive study on 30 infertile patients participating in in vitro fertilization at the reproductive support center - Vinh Phuc Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Results: Before receiving instructions, 80.0% of patients had incorrect knowledge. After being guided on self-injection at home, the proportion of patients with correct knowledge increased to 100%. Approximately 66.7% of patients reported feeling little or no anxiety about self-administering injections. Patients who were not worried about proper dosage accounted for 73.3%, while 63.3% reported injecting correctly. Home injection was particularly advantageous in reducing the need to travel to healthcare facilities (83.3%) and helped save time and costs (60%). Most patients adhered to the correct injection procedures while 2 patients (6.7%) did not disinfect the injection site beforehand. Conclusions: Prior to receiving instructions, 80.0% of patients lacked proper knowledge. After receiving guidance on self-injection at home, all patients achieved correct knowledge (100%). To improve the effectiveness of home medication use among IVF patients, hospitals should provide comprehensive instructions. Patients should prepare all necessary tools, understand the dosage, schedule, and injection techniques, and contact the hospital if any difficulties arise during the injection process.
