Abstract

Objective: To describe the characteristics of pain in older adults with Parkinson’s disease. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on 126 patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease who visited and received treatment at the National Geriatric Hospital. Results: The average age of participants was 69.4 ± 6.1 years, with a female-to-male ratio of approximately 1.86. Pain was reported in 65.1% of patients, with very mild and mild pain accounting for 42.7% and 35.3%, respectively. Moderate pain was experienced by 17.1%, while severe pain was reported in 4.9% of cases. Musculoskeletal pain was the most common type (73.0%), followed by radicular pain (29.4%). Conclusion: Pain is highly prevalent among older adults with Parkinson’s disease, with over 20% experiencing moderate to severe pain. Routine pain screening and appropriate management strategies are crucial to improving the quality of life in this population.
