CURRENT STATUS AND TREATMENT NEEDS OF TOOTH DECAY OF FIRST YEAR STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITY OF LANGUAGES AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES – VIETNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, HANOI IN 2024

Abstract
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2024 among 251 first-year students at the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to assess the prevalence of dental caries, associated risk factors, and treatment needs related to dental caries in this population. The results showed that the prevalence of dental caries among the participants was 39.8%. The mean DMFT index was 1.51 ± 2.27, with the components as follows: decayed teeth (D) 1.11 ± 1.96, missing teeth due to caries (M) 0.02 ± 0.14, and filled teeth (F) 0.38 ± 1.21. According to the classification by the World Health Organization (WHO, 2013), the DMFT index in this study is considered low.
