Abstract

Patients with Parkinson's disease are at high risk of frailty syndrome. Several studies worldwide have investigated frailty syndrome in Parkinson’s disease patients. A systematic review published in 2019 reported that while the exact prevalence remains unclear, frailty syndrome is relatively common in this population, ranging from 29% to 67%. Our study focused on patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who visited the National Geriatric Hospital for examination and treatment. We conducted a cross-sectional study using a convenience sampling method, with a sample size of 145 patients. Frailty syndrome was assessed using the Fried, revealing a prevalence of 34.5%. The average age of the 145 patients was 67.68 years, with a standard deviation of 8.36. Patients in stage 3 of the Hoehn and Yahr scale had the highest proportion, accounting for 35.9%. The mean daily Levodopa dose among participants was 446.21 ± 240.97 mg/day. The prevalence of frailty syndrome in Parkinson’s disease patients is relatively high compared to other populations. This finding highlights the importance of early screening for geriatric syndromes in general, and particularly for frailty syndrome in Parkinson’s disease patients.
