FACTORS INFLUENCING PRACTICES RELATED TO THE PREVENTION AND EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER AMONG FEMALE STUDENTS OF HEALTH SCIENCE AT TRA VINH UNIVERSITY IN 2023

Abstract
Background: Breast cancer is a malignant disease that develops in the breast cells, which can rapidly proliferate in surrounding tissues or spread to other parts of the body. Educating students about breast cancer and self-breast examination can influence their health practices and beliefs. Objectives: To identify factors influencing practices related to the prevention and early detection of breast cancer among female students in the health sciences field at Tra Vinh University. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study using a simple random sampling method with 337 female students in the health sciences field at Tra Vinh University. Results: A total of 116 female students (34.4%) demonstrated adequate practices for the prevention of breast cancer, while 221 female students (65.6%) were evaluated as having inadequate practices. The factor of marital status as a source of information was found to be associated with the practices of the female students participating in the study, with p<0.05. Conclusion: It is recommended to update the curriculum and integrate additional health education programs on breast cancer to enhance knowledge and promote a positive attitude towards breast cancer prevention and early detection among female health science students at Tra Vinh University.
