Abstract

Objective: To investigate certain factors related to the quality of life in patients with gastroduodenal ulcers. Subjects and Methods: The study was conducted on 78 patients diagnosed with gastroduodenal ulcers at the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Center, Bach Mai Hospital. All participants were over 18 years old, confirmed via upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and interviewed using a standardized procedure with the SF-36 questionnaire. Results: Among the 78 patients, the average age was 43±15 years, with a male/female ratio of approximately 1.7:1. The proportion of patients with good quality of life was 38.5%, moderate 56.4%, and only 5.1% had poor quality of life. Univariate analysis revealed that the group aged <40 years, females, those without comorbidities, and those without complications of gastrointestinal bleeding had significantly higher rates of good quality of life—12.5 times, 3.1 times, 11.9 times, and 10.6 times higher, respectively—compared to the remaining groups, with statistically significant differences (p<0.001). Conclusion: The quality of life in patients with gastroduodenal ulcers is higher among those aged <40 years, females, individuals without comorbidities, and those without complications of gastrointestinal bleeding.
