THE CURRENT SITUATION OF DENTAL CARIES OF 6-YEAR-OLD STUDENTS AT DONG THANH PRIMARY SCHOOL, BAC GIANG CITY, BAC GIANG IN 2025

Abstract
Primary teeth play an important role in chewing, speech, aesthetics, as well as guiding and maintaining space for the eruption of permanent teeth. However, the prevalence of primary tooth decay among Vietnamese children remains high. Therefore, this study was conducted to describe the current status of primary tooth decay in first-grade students (6 years old). Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 266 first-grade students studying at Dong Thanh Primary School – Bac Giang City – Bac Giang. Results: The prevalence of primary tooth decay among children was 84.96%, with 86% in boys and 83.62% in girls. The dmft index was 6.56, with a dmft of 6.95 in female students and 6.05 in male students. Conclusion: The prevalence of primary tooth decay and the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (dmft) index in 6-year-old children were both high.
