Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of bleb formation and intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction using the technique of bleb scar revision with needling combined with subconjunctival 5-fluorouracil (5FU) injection in patients with glaucoma who had failed trabeculectomy. Subjects: A total of 13 glaucomatous eyes, including 8 eyes with angle-closure glaucoma and 5 eyes with open-angle glaucoma, all of which had previously undergone failed trabeculectomy surgery. Methods: A prospective descriptive study. Results: The mean IOP decreased from 29.69 ± 4.37 mmHg before treatment to 18.94 ± 1.05 mmHg after treatment. The average number of antiglaucoma medications was reduced from 2.46 before treatment to 0.39 at three months post-treatment. Bleb morphology improved in 86.7% of cases. The most common complications were subconjunctival hemorrhage and hyphema; no serious complications were observed. Conclusion: Needling combined with subconjunctival 5-Fluorouracilinjection is a simple, safe, and effective method for bleb revision in cases of failed trabeculectomy in glaucoma patients.
