RESEARCH ON HYPERURICEMIA IN TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL OF ENDOCRINOLOGY IN 2024

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of hyperuricemia and analyze its association with certain clinical, lifestyle, and laboratory factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 153 patients with T2DM and CKD at the National Hospital of Endocrinology from October to December 2024. Data were collected through clinical examinations, medical history interviews, and blood biochemical tests. Results: The prevalence of hyperuricemia was 68.6%. This condition showed statistically significant associations with CKD stages, purine-rich diets, alcohol consumption, a history of gout, and a duration of diabetes or hypertension of 10 years or more. Several laboratory indices, including blood glucose, eGFR, urea, triglycerides, and hemoglobin, significantly differed between the hyperuricemia and non-hyperuricemia groups. Conclusion: Hyperuricemia is a common condition among T2DM patients with CKD and is associated with multiple risk factors. Screening for hyperuricemia should be emphasized in clinical practice.
